Anger as vital centre for disabled set for axe

-

She has been told council staff will end up being shifted and begin working there from the start of January.

The centre provides 9am- 4pm activities such as cake making and day trips.

A similar council- run adult day service in Girvan is understood to be remaining open.

In July 2019, the council wrote to users of the Kyle Adult Day Service and their families to notify them that a review was underway.

The review found that the number of people using the Kyle Day Service was falling.

A council spokesman said: “There is more focus on selfdirected support among clients and less emphasis on using the centre which was their only option in the past.

“This combined with a barely ‘ adequate’ rating by the care Inspectorate on the building’s physical condition, means that the centre is set to close at the end of the year. We are working with those currently using the centre to ensure they’re aware of all the support available to them. Staff will be offered suitable alternative jobs.”
