Old grapplers converge in town

-

Old grapplers from across the UK converged on Ayr for a wrestling reunion.

The event, organised by former ring king, Andrew Bryden, relived glory days from the squared circle.

Among those to be honoured were the old Mossblown Gym Lads.

The Gym was part of the old Mossblown School, pulled down around 1981. A special trophy was also commissioned in memory of Ayr wrestler, Adrian McCallum, who passed away this summer.

Adrian’s parents were among those in attendance at Peter Boyle Bowling Club for the event, which drew around 100 ring stars.

Andrew, who wrestled as ‘ Dale Storm,’ said: “Adrian was always available to help out and advise new young talent, male or female.

“This trophy has his name on it and will now be awarded yearly to the “Most Promising Newcomer, to be chosen by both the paying public and all the Promoters Scotland wide yearly.” Adrian’s parents also donated a pair of his boots to be displayed at the reunion’s future yearly events.
