Decision Day for the SNP

-

A big decision lies ahead for many of South Ayrshire’s SNP members next week – who to pick as their party’s candidate for the next general election.

At the time of writing – only two names were in the hat. And they were due to go head- to- head at members only “hustings” in Ayr, Girvan and Cumnock this week.

A week- long voting ‘ window’ opens this Friday.

With incumbent Tory MP Bill Grant stepping down – the Nats must think they’re in with a real chance of stealing Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock back.

I also hope they remember just why they lost it! And her name was Corri Wilson. A tartan vacuum flask would have won the Nats this seat at the last election. But Ms Wilson’s attitude to staffing and family – her staff were her family! – lost her serious credibility . . . and hundreds of voters. And the Tories played an ace in selecting Bill Grant murmuring “A- B- C” last week. You guys familiarising yourself with the alphabet?” I jibed. “Naw – it stands for Anyone But Corri . . .” they told me. Her rival candidate is Allan Dorrans.

I don’t agree with a lot of his politics - but if the choice was Allan, Corri or a tartan vacuum flask . . . Allan would just pip the flask!
