A double celebration for the United Free Church

- ABI SMILLIE

St Andrew’s United Free Church in Cumnock marked two special milestones this month.

The church celebrated the 80th anniversary of their building, on Glaisnock Street, and the 90th anniversary of their congregation.

Regulars and invited guests joined together to worship God and give him thanks for all his goodness and faithfulness over the years.

Minister Tom McWhirter said: “Although the building is a great asset, and holds many precious memories, it is good to remember that God is everywhere, and we can pray to him and worship him anywhere.”

After the service, church goers enjoyed a light lunch in the beautifully decorated hall, where there was plenty of conversation and laughs. A gorgeous cake had been specifically made and iced, which was cut by Maida Hood. Maida has been associated with the church all her life, and even remembers seeing it being built!

• The church meet every Sunday at 11am at 111 Glaisnock St, Cumnock KA18 1JR. There is a family fun evening once a month on a Friday evening from 6- 7.30 pm, which includes activities appropriate for children P3 and upwards. The next meeting is this Friday ( September 27).
