Peacock staff proving charity spirit is not with pinch of salt

-

A family firm has helped to deliver a huge financial boost to an Ayrshire charity following a worthy challenge.

Ayr- based Peacock Salt had pledged to raise £ 10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Whiteleys Retreat by sending staff on a trek along the River Ayr Way.

More than 44 miles later, the total was smashed, with almost £ 14,000 in the bank for the good causes.

Director Gregorie Marshall said: “We are astounded and delighted to have exceeded our target with a fundraising total of £ 14,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Whiteleys Retreat.

“Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. “Cancer has touched all of our lives in some way and becomes all the more poignant when children are involved.

“The team were exceptional in their dedication and effort on the day, through aches and injuries saw the challenge through to end.

“There were some sore legs - and sore heads the following day.”

The money raised from the partnership will be divided equally between the two.

It will contribute to Macmillan’s vital cancer services including specialist nurses working throughout the NHS, a nurse- run support line and grants for cancer patients with money problems.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager for The West of Scotland, Michelle Jeffcott said: “At Macmillan, we know how cancer can affect everything.

“We’re here to help people live life, no matter what, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us.

“We are delighted to have been chosen, alongside Whiteleys Retreat as Peacock Salt’s charity partner for 2019.”

At Whiteleys, the funds raised will go towards the upkeep necessary to look after the bespoke cottages which Whiteleys runs here in Ayrshire.

Maxine Allan, CEO of the charity, said: “We are absolutely blown over with the support from the team at Peacock Salt.

“We love fundraising challenges which involve the whole team taking part - getting fit, team building and enjoying the Ayrshire fresh air.

“Every penny donated to Whiteleys will go direct to offering free therapeutic respite breaks to families with cancer and life altering illness.”
