Polarised Peru

-

A new series of Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s ( RSGS) Inspiring People talks starts in Ayr tonight.

Six speakers will appear between September and March.

First up in Ayr tonight ( Wednesday) will be filmmaker Eilidh Munro.

She will speak about a documentary she has been making in the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, ‘ Voices on the Road’.

In this wilderness a road is quietly destroying a protected rainforest, causing conflict and fear, but for some indigenous communities this road also brings hope.

Eilidh and her team embarked on an expedition in 2018 to unearth stories on this polarising issue, giving a platform for the voices of marginalised communities.

RSGS Ayr chairman Jim Stewart said: “With headlines focussed on the burning of the Amazon, Eilidh’s talk about this region is very timely.

“We look forward to welcoming her to Ayrshire and hearing of her exciting documentary. It is a great example of geography in action.”

The talk will be in Ayr Town Hall at 7pm, entry £ 10.
