Bowing out with the best
It was to be the final act of the Ian McCall era. And the outgoing boss hailed Ayr’s first half destruction of Alloa as his “best in management”.
For 45 minutes, it was fantasy football from the men in red and white. And had it been double figures at the break, Alloa could not have complained.
A double from Alan Forrest – one a penalty – was added to by Sam Roscoe and Luke McCowan.
But Ayr were rampant and a host of other chances came and went during a scintillating first half. McCall said after the 4- 1 win: “Some of the stuff we played was unbelievable.
“That first half was breathtaking and if we get the ball into good areas we will hurt teams.
“Last season we had Lawrence Shankland but now we have players all over the park this season who are chipping in. I really enjoyed watching us as I’m sure everyone here today did.”
