Urgent warning to fix death trap road
September 17.
“EAC agreed that our works have not contributed to any accidents on this stretch of road and they have no issues arising from our site.
“It was agreed with the East Ayrshire Council that the main factor was due to motorist speeding on this stretch of road.”
But Lynsey insisted: “It’s nothing to do with speeding. I was doing around 30mph and my friend was going 35mph.
“This road is covered in oil and diesel.
“Because of all the lorries driving up and down constantly there is oil and diesel on the road. You can see it.
“I’m not saying it’s their fault. Stuff leaks out all the time.
“I have had no response from the road alliance and when I called East Ayrshire Council to say the day after my crash that the road was too slippy and needed gritted they were only interested if I was putting a claim in.
“All they need to do is put that gritty tarmac down.”
Doon Valley councillor John Bell said new warning signs and chevrons will be installed and he is pushing for the road to be added to the skid resistance programme.
Stewart Turner, head of roads for Ayrshire Roads Alliance, said: “I would like to apologise to Mr Smith for the delay in contacting him regarding his concerns about the A713 and the action we have taken to make this route safer.
“The alliance has undertaken accident investigations and several joint inspections of the route with Police Scotland.
“As a result of the investigations and joint inspections new warning signage, road markings and anti- skid surfacing have been installed at identified locations along the route.
“Inve s t i gations are continuing and we will implement any further measures that are considered necessary.”
