Exhibition to address the plight of domestic abuse
A domestic abuse exhibition hopes viewers will put themselves ‘ in their shoes’.
The Souls of our Shoes Exhibition features 70 pairs of shoes from abuse survivors and supporting individuals and politicians, who aim to address the plight of domestic violence.
The collection of shoes on show will be accompanied by comments, which will speak on behalf of abused individuals who suffer at the hands of their partner or ex- partner.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Fullarton Street, Ayr will host the pop up exhibition across three dates this month.
Mary McCorquindale, Co- orindator of PVG for Holy Trinity and Mothers’ Union member, said the church have been trying to bring the issue to the forefront.
Mary said: “So often people suffer in silence.
“It can happen to men, it can be verbal, it can destroy your confidence.
“What got me particularly is the quotes from kids of how it had affected them.
“I thought ‘ poor wee things in the middle of all that, not being able to help.’
“It could be your shoes that are there. “And you’re very lucky when you think your shoes aren’t there. We want to try and be as supportive as we can.”
The travelling exhibition is produced by Scottish Interfaith Group on Domestic Abuse who are committed to raising awareness within faith communities of domestic abuse, challenging preconceptions and standing with those who have been or are abused.
The Souls of our Shoes Exhibition takes place on Sunday, October 13, Wednesday 16 and Sunday 20 from 12noon to 4pm.
