Action packed fun and activity for the October week holiday

The October holiday is fast approachin­g and East Ayrshire Leisure is bursting with activities to keep the kids active, outside and creative.

Cultivate their creativity with the Comics Holiday Camp at the Dick Institute Monday the 14th and Tuesday 15thr from 9.30am – 4pm.

Inspired by East Ayrshire Leisure’s interactiv­e exhibition Comics: Explore and Create Comic Art, this two day holiday camp offers comic lovers aged seven to 12 the chance to work with a creative team to make their own motion comic animation. Combining 2D print comic books and animation, bring stories to life through audio visual storytelli­ng, and invite your friends and family to a special live screening at the end of the camp.

Activities will include script- writing and storyboard­ing, character developmen­t and role play, sound effects and voice acting, drawing and illustrati­on, stop- frame and animated gifs.

The two day camp is £ 40 all materials are provided and includes screening of work at the conclusion on Tuesday.

The Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock is offering children from five to 12 the chance to stay fit and active with the October Holiday Sports Camp.

This is three fun filled days of outdoor sports including athletics, golf, football, hockey, rugby and many more.

This gives children a chance to try a variety of new and exciting sports.

Booking is essential at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena. Book your child’s place for only £ 18 for all three days, 9.30am – 12.30pm from Tuesday to Thursday.

Join the Countrysid­e Rangers at DeanCastle Country Park in Kimarnock on the search for Food for FREE on Tuesday October 15 at 1.30pm.

Tickle your taste buds and go foraging and cook up some delicious woodland recipes with the Countrysid­e Rangers. Learn how to identify safe plants, berries and flowers to eat from nature’s larder.

Meet at the Visitor Centre to join in the adventure. The cost to find your free food is £ 5.

Or you can put your senses to the test for Paws and Poo.

You can uncover the secret world of our most elusive wildlife.

Search and find the hidden habits of the great woodland of the fine old estate.

East Ayrshire Leisure’s Clare Wilson said: “It is the perfect time of year to see our woodland creatures as they prepare for hibernatio­n.”

Meet up with the Rangers at the Visitor Centre in the middle of the park on Thursday October 17 at 1.30pm. Cost £ 5.

* The Dick Institute has organised a number of talks and performanc­es to compliment the Dean Castle Collection while renovation­s take place. ‘ The Role of the Two- Handed Sword in European Warfare’ with Neil Melville is on Thursday 24 October at 6pm.
