Tudhope to strike

- IAIN FERGUSON

Ayr Racecourse stages its final flat meeting of 2019 today ( Thursday) with the seven race card due off at 2pm.

The feature race of the afternoon is the Western House Handicap over six furlongs.

And last week’s course winner John Kirkup, from the Michael Dods yard, is likely to be in action again.

He will be up against some useful types including Jim Goldie’s Tommy G and Muscika from the David O’Meara yard.

With the going expected to be heavy, Dick Datchery should be in his element in the opening novice stakes.

The two year- old won a similar contest at the course in July and with Danny Tudhope in the saddle he should take all the beating.

Chinese Spirit has been running consistently all season for trainer Linda Perratt and is rarely out of the first three at Ayr. This could be the day when he gets his head in front in the final race of the afternoon, the Racecourse Christmas Tribute Nights Handicap over a mile.

Another horse who won at Ayr last week and looks set to take his chance today is Stamp of Authority.

The Tom McCourt trained seven year- old was impressive last week and will be looking for a quickfire course double.

Stamp of Authority won at the track last week giving his Irish trainer McCourt and jockey Karen Kenny their first ever Ayr winners and he could win again in the Christmas Day At Western House Handicap over seven furlongs.

The highlight of last week’s October Raceday at Ayr was the Legendary Western House Hogmanay Ball Handicap which was won by Get Knotted.

Dods’ horse had finished third behind Golden Apollo in the Ayr Silver Cup in September and was fourth in the Gold Cup in 2018.

He made no mistake in this lower grade race over seven furlongs under a confident Callum Rodriguez ride.

The seven year- old should win again on turf before the season’s end. • Tickets are now on sale for the 2020 Coral Scottish Grand National Festival on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. The Saturday of the Festival has sold out for the past few years .
