summit despite the sickness.

“Two years ago her daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and I wanted to do something to support her – in the best way I know how.

“My best friend’s husband also has Type 1 diabetes and, since signing up to take part, a family member has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes – so, it’s become very personal to me.

“I self- fund all of my fundraising challenges to ensure that all the money donated through sponsorship goes to the charity.”

Diane hopes to raise £ 2500 for the charity.

She has been walking Ayrshire’s beaches to train for the Saharan sand that will face her during the gruelling challenge next month.

When she’s not at work running the Mossblown family business, K Imrie Tree Care, Diane is filling her time with a dedicated training regime.

She added: “It’s tougher than I thought. I’ve also been attending Marine Fitness bootcamp and personal training – we’ve even done some sessions on the beach to help me prepare for the terrain.”

There are an estimated 4.7 million people living with diabetes in the UK.

When not well managed, both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can lead to serious complications, including sight loss, amputation, kidney failure and stroke.

With the right treatment, knowledge and support people living with diabetes can lead a long, full and healthy life.

Fiona Stewart, Regional Fundraiser at Diabetes UK, said: “We’re so grateful to Diane for taking on this challenge for us. It’s inspiring to hear how much hard work she’s putting into training – and in support of others who live with diabetes. We wish her all the best and are looking forward to seeing her photographs.”
