Tributes to last lifetime

come to see the tower light up and to light a candle and show their support.

“It was also great that people contacted me via Facebook after seeing the article in the Ayrshire Post and shared their stories of loss, giving a voice to babies and saying their names for what was the first time in years for some.

“The lack of support for bereaved parents is something that needs to be improved.

“A recent publication called ‘ out of sight out of mind’ which is available on the babyloss awareness website, found nine out of 10 local areas had no specialist psychological bereavement support for bereaved parents.

“Sixty per cent of bereaved parents said they couldn’t access support on the NHS.

“This needs to change and I hope that lighting pink and blue to show support lets parents know they are not alone, that they are cared about and that their babies lives mattered.”

Laura, who lit up the tower with the help of officials at South Ayrshire Council, now wants to bring other buildings into play in 2020.

She said: “I hope to approach local businesses next year to light up shop fronts and other areas and they can stand together with bereaved parents to support them.

“I also hope to have a ceremony where the names of babies will be read out on the evening the tower lights because they matter, their lives matter and it’s time the stigma and silence attached to baby loss is broken down.

“I love when people ask me about Jacob because it means a lot to me that people remember him.”
