Public have say on £ 19m school

-

The Prestwick public has been given first glance of its new £ 19 million super- school.

A campus joining the town’s Glenburn and St Ninian’s Primaries is due for construction next year.

Council chiefs this week opened up the floor to any concerns before pressing ahead with their proposals.

An exhibition was held at Glenburn, site of the proposed new campus.

Both existing schools will be replaced by the modern replacement, built over 4.8 acres.

Outdoor classrooms, multi- use games halls and gardens will be among the facilities.

Town councillor, Hugh Hunter, said: “These are exciting times for the pupils and families involved.

“The project is eminently sensible given the footprint of both sites and how close they are to each other.

“Feedback has been positive thus far and this looks a great opportunity to do something special.

“Prestwick continues to enhance its reputation as being a great place to bring up a family – and this will only help.”

The new campus will house more than 500 pupils on the one site.

St Ninian’s, a Roman Catholic denominational school, will move from its current base on Adamton Road North.

But council chiefs have stressed both primaries will retain their “own identity” after the switch.

A new stand alone nursery is also part of the plans, which are subject to planning approval.

Work is scheduled to be completed in December 2022 if the project is rubber stamped.

Council schools spokesman, William Grant, said: “Through our school build programme, we are transforming learning in South Ayrshire.

“We are also ensuring our schools are accessible to the wider community and the first rate facilities can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Public comments on the project can be also be submitted until November 4 at www. south- ayrshire. gov. uk/ schools/ future- needs/
