Sweet success for students

-

Chocolatier students didn’t melt under the pressure as they produced stunning show pieces during a masterclass.

As part of their Professional Cookery Patisserie and Confectionery course, Ayr College students were joined by award- winning Chocolatier, Shona Sutherland from Taystful who showed them different techniques involved with working with the delicious goods.

Sharing her experience as a Patisserie Chef and Chocolatier, Shona said: “We covered lots of techniques including; textured plinth, flower petals, cocoa butter colouring, metallic, airbrushing, branches, piping butterflies, casting eggs and also curls with chocolate putty.”

Ayrshire College Hospitality Lecturer, Livia Alexander said: “The students couldn’t believe how much can be done with chocolate. It was amazing to see their sense of achievement after only a day’s workshop.”

Patisserie and Confectionary student, Margaret Martin added: “I’ve learnt so much. It’s been really interesting and I’ve enjoyed being able to be creative and have my own input to the design.”

A troubled woman called Ayr Bus Station and warned an employee there was a bomb on the bus going to Kilmarnock.

Gillian Todd sparked a bomb scare like the Hollywood blockbuster ‘ Speed’ when she told one operator: “Would you like to have a party on the bus? It’s going to explode.”

Todd, 36, of McAdam Square, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, February 4 for sentencing, accompanied by an appropriate adult.

She previously admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear and alarm, by making repeated calls between January 4 and 6.

Todd admitted engaging in a course of conduct between November 25 and December 11 which caused support worker Pamela Hannan fear and alarm by repeatedly phoning her, making offensive remarks, leaving voice mails, threatening retribution and threatening to go to her home.

Todd further admitted calling the NHS24 line and making suicidal remarks on December 13 and falsely claiming to police officers that she did not make the hoax calls. She admitted bail breaches too.

In terms of the bus station incidents one call came through and Todd warned the operator that a bomb was on one of the vehicles.
