Breakaway can wait say Talbot

Henry Dumigan vows Auchinleck are in no rush to follow clubs who want a breakaway West of Scotland League.

Whitletts, Irvine Meadow and Kilwinning are among those who have reaffirmed their desire to join the SFL pyramid system.

But long serving secretary Dumigan insists Talbot will continue to back the SJFA.

In a statement, he said: “Following the decision of the Lowland League and East of Scotland League not to support the recommenda­tions of the Pyramid Working Group, this would have allowed the Scottish Junior FA to join the Pyramid System.

“Auchinleck Talbot wish to confirm that we will support the SJFA in their efforts to find a solution to this matter.

“In the meantime we will continue to work towards achieving Club Licensing in preparatio­n for any possible future changes to the structure of our game.

“We can assure our fans they will be kept informed of any developmen­ts. We will consult with them before any decision is made on the club’s future.”

Talbot needed an 89th minute goal from Keir Samson to beat Rutherglen 2- 1 and crank up the heat on leaders Kilwinning.

Trailing to a Jordan Leyden goal at the interval, they equalised through Stephen Wilson before Samson headed a last gasp winner.

On Saturday, Talbot head to Kilwinning in the second round of the Ardagh West of Scotland Cup.

CUMNOCK boss Tony McInally celebrated a triumphant return to Pollok, the club who axed him after almost five years in charge.

McInally showed his old team what they were missing when sub Greg Ferry headed a last minute winner.

That sent Cumnock into Tuesday night’s historic derby at home to Auchinleck on a high. It’s the first time these fierce rivals have met under floodlight­s.
