Car torched in targeted fire attack
A white Audi was torched in a targeted attack outside a home.
Detectives have appealed for witnesses after the car was set ablaze in Kilmarnock Road, Monkton, on Friday about 2.30am.
The alarm was raised when the shocked owner was woken to find his car on fire.
Emergency services attended and the fire was put out.
The vehicle was left badly damaged. Detective constable Stuart McCulloch, Ayr CID, said the fire could have had far more serious consequences and has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
He added: “Whilst we believe that this car was specifically targeted, the fact is that if it had not been noticed, the fire could have spread to the house and the other homes and property nearby and someone may have been injured.
“Officers are checking local and private
CCTV in the area and carrying out door to door enquiries, however, I would appeal to anyone who may have seen either a car or people acting suspiciously in the area this morning to get in touch.”
There was no damage to the house. The Post contacted the owner of the vehicle and he was too shaken to speak to us.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 2.42am on Friday to reports of a vehicle on fire on Kilmarnock Road, Monkton.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the flames.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Witnesses should call police on 101 quoting reference number 0430 or alternatively telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
