Groups’ £4000 bounty thanks to pupils
Ayrshire Cancer Support, Dalmellington Band and Ayrshire SANDS are among six organisations set to benefit locally from Covid-19 community response cash.
Each of them are to receive £4,000 to help tackle the far-reaching impacts of Covid-19.
Also benefitting from the scheme in Ayrshire are The Hansel Foundation, Fullarton Community Association and Break the Silence.
And it’s thanks to pupils at the following schools who made successful submission for the cash handout- Doon Academy, Kilmarnock Academy, Auchenharvie Academy, Greenwood Academy, St Matthew’s Academy and Kyle Academy.
They managed to obtain cash from the Wood Foundation, who’ve granted £200,000 already to Covid-19 community responses, championed by young people
In total there were 50 successful submissions to the Wood Foundation’s‘ Your Community Fund’ and all will each receive £4000.
The local charities, represented by teams of young people through creative digital packages, address social issues including food poverty, social isolation, homelessness, alongside physical and mental health.
Sir Ian Wood, Chairman of The Wood Foundation, said:“Your Community Fund had to be put together very quickly to support the disruption to our YPI (Youth and Philanthropy Initiative) programme in a large number of schools and I congratulate The Wood Foundation staff on the great work they’ve done. It’s clear the young people have really enjoyed the role they can play to help the world outside their front door while they’ve had to remain at home.
“Many of the submissions were really very impressive. It was great to see how much young people cared about their causes and the different ways they told the charities stories and the difference the money would make to them.”
