Back to business with a beauty

Mansion fit for a king and queen

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

In the last seven days the Ayrshire property market came alive after four months in enforced trance.

South Ayrshire saw 60 new homes listing, 61 in the North and 46 in the East.

Agents and owners hope the fresh stock will help get things moving again.

The cream of the crop is “Chalfont” a much admired residence in prime position in Troon overlooking the Lochgreen Golf Course, Portland, Royal Troon and then the deep blue.

You need deep pockets at offers over £1.6 million . . . but this exceptional house is worth every penny.

This seven-bedder sits in the middle of a couple of acres and is among the finest properties on Southwood Road.

Once inside the wrought iron gates, a long, curving drive leads to a circular parking feature.

Inside the Edwardian features of the early 1900s have been blended with the epitome of a luxury modern home.

The heart is the kitchen, which is open plan to the family room with French doors to the patio.

And the heart of the kitchen is the four-oven black AGA.

Peter Walker of Savills in Glasgow is handling the sale.

Savills say: “Renovated and upgraded to the highest of standards, Chalfont House is in an enviable positon surrounded by lush green lawns, gardens and trees.

“It was designed to take full advantage of the views over the Firth of Clyde and surrounding golf courses.”

You get 5479 square feet and a selfcontained two bedroom apartment great for guests or your own live-in staff.

The twin aspect drawing room is nearly 26 feet and ground floor accomodation includes a separate formal dining room and study with its own feature fireplace.

Upstairs the master suite opens to the balcony with views to Arran. A games room, gym and sauna are all on the this floor.

There is garage parking for three cars and enough space outside to park a fleet of vehicles.

A lovely spot in the grounds has a fish pond spattered with lily pads, and a bridge leading to a potting shed.

Life is good. Call Savills on 0141 222 5870, offers over £1.6m.
