KITCHEN NIGHTMARES

Customers thousands of pounds out of pocket as design firm collapses

- PAUL BEHAN

Furious customers have been left thousands of pounds out of pocket after a well-known kitchen design and bedroom firm collapsed.

One shopper told how she had forked out £3500 to Digital Kitchens in Ayr.

Scores of other customers have been left high and dry after the organsisation shut its doors.

One told The Post she has been waiting since March 20 for kitchen doors.

She stormed: ”I paid in full to Digital Kitchens. Now the phone line is cut off and the Facebook page has been deleted.

“I am very angry and confused. I have lost £3500.”

A group of furious customers say they’ve been left high and dry by the closure of a well-known kitchen and bedroom design firm.

Some claim they’ve shelled out thousands of pounds for work which wasn’t completed by Digital Kitchens and Bedrooms Factory Outlet.

The firm is based in Ayr’s Mosshill Industrial Estate and was once the ‘go-to’ place over the years for kitchen and bedroom makeovers.

But The Post can this week reveal the business HAS closed its doors.

The closure now leaves serious question marks over the thousands of pounds customers forked out on deposits for new kitchens and bedrooms.

On Monday, The Post contacted one employee who is facing redundancy and they confirmed the closure.

However, the angry group of customers say they are being met with a wall of silence from the owners.

One customer said she’s out of pocket to the tune of £3,500.

She told The Post: “I’ve been waiting since March 20 for kitchen doors. I paid in full to Digital Kitchens. Now the phone line is cut off and the Facebook page has been deleted.

“No customers have been notified that the company has gone into liquidation and we’ve no idea who the Administrators are to raise a claim. But their website is still running.

“I am very angry and confused. I have lost £3,500.”

And another customer claimed they’d put down a full deposit on a fully fitted kitchen in February, but have since had “no contact” from the company “whatsoever.”

One other customer said: “They took our money for our kitchen at the end of February, beginning of March, for a delivery that was due on 5th March. But they failed to deliver more than just the cabinets. There’s no doors, drawers, plinths etc. Since COVID-19 kicked in they have vanished off the face of the planet.

“There is a small group of us now who are in the same situation and we don’t really know who to turn to. No-one at the company will talk to us.”

According to Companies House, the firm, whose company name is Art Direct Imports Ltd, is still listed as “active.”

And on their website they boast that: “You can find everything you need for the ultimate kitchen or bedroom under one roof- at a price that won’t be beaten!”

The Post did get in touch with the firm on Monday in order to get a response from current owner John Martin but we did not receive a response by the time we reached our deadline.

At this stage it’s unclear how many employees are losing their jobs.
