140mph crash victim to sue

-

The injured victim of a death crash caused by boy racers is suing one of them.

Gillian Kay, 43, is fighting John Gribben for more than £100,000.

The devastating crash on the A77 near the bridge over the River Ayr claimed the life of her friend Joan Price, 59, of Troon.

Gillian and Joan were returned home from band practice with the Dunaskin Doon Band when horror struck.

Ayr Mechanic John Gribben described by a judge as self-centered - is serving a six year sentence.

He admitted during the trial that he was driving at up to 140mph on that fatal night.

Gillian reveals: “The accident changed my life completely - not only did I lose a friend but I’ve been left with permanent mobility difficulties.

“My work has been affected and I’ll need ongoing medical care for the rest of my life - that is why I am now reliant on a civil case for compensation.”

She was a passenger in Joan’s Nissan as Gribben raced banned driver Logan Knox at terrifying speeds in January 2017.Gribben,19, was racing banned driver Logan Knox, 23, of Kirkoswald, when Knox’s Golf GTI slammed into Joan’s car. Gillian said: “The idea that one of these drivers is already close to being released from prison is sickening - he was responsible for killing someone so how is a couple of years of lost liberty fair?

“To me this proves the sentences for death by dangerous driving are too low.

“This driver killed my friend while while having no licence or insurance.

“Affected families need to believe that the justice system will protect them and uphold the values of a good community - and such a community needs a deterrent to stop people treating our roads as their own personal race tracks.”

Knox was jailed for five years and four months.
