A quintessential country cottage

With its very own waterfall

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

Straiton is always high on the list for a perfect place in the South Ayrshire countryside.

There’s a great wee community with a church, village hall, co-operative shop and primary school.

There was even a pub before the great Black Bull was put out to pasture.

Culdoch Cottage is on the road out past the school, about a mile from the village centre.

And you get a view from every single room.

Corum has it for sale at offers over £285,000.

The original cottage has been carefully extended at the back, creating a courtyard.

And Corum note: “There’s manicured and decorative garden grounds and mature wooded areas that continue into more wild and open countryside leading up the hill to a secluded waterfall with a summer house.”

There is plenty of off-road parking, a large outbuilding and potential to add further accommodation on the plot.

The cottage is all on the level and has three large bedrooms - the master has an en-suite.

A spacious bay windowed lounge / dining area has a feature fireplace, log burner and patio doors. It is nearly 22 feet by 19 ft 5 in.

A great touch given all the firewood supply, is that there are log burners in two bedrooms.

The main bathroom has a big sauna – so there’s no chance of being cold at Culdoch.

The country-style kitchen measures more than 15 feet and has patio doors to the side.

There is plenty of storage outside in a 19ft by 18ft outbuilding.

The cottage is described as all on the one level, but the surprise is a 31 feet long attic room, with proper stairs and two Velux windows on the rear facade.

There are two separate garden grounds, surrounded by mature woodland and highlighted by decorative pebbles and shrubs.

As well as that waterfall on your own meandering burn, there is a hidden summer house with stone open fire.

Corum add: “There is an orchard, native hardwoods and stunning views across open countryside from all areas of the plot.”

If you’re set for country life, this ticks almost every box. Call Corum on 01292 880888, o/o £285,000.
