PREPARING FOR LOCAL LOCKDOWN
New rise in Covid cases including: ■ Two schools ■ Nursery ■ Supermarket
Council chiefs are preparing for a lockdown in Ayrshire.
It comes after a cluster of Covid- 19 cases were linked to a house party and pupils from Prestwick Academy and Marr College were ordered to selfisolate. One further pupil at a nursery and two store staff also tested positive for the virus.
A leaked council document states: “The Covid 19 Response team is making preparations to ensure emergency provision in the event of a local or panAyrshire lockdown.”
Covid contact tracers have isolated kids at a nursery after one of its pupils tested positive for the virus.
The case was confirmed at Granny Smith’s in Troon.
The child is said to have very mild symptoms and is recovering at home.
NHS test and trace teams have been in contact with the nursery following the positive test.
Those identified as being in close contact have been placed in 14 day isolation.
Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health for NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “We appreciate this is a very worrying time.
“However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect children and staff.
“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.
“We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus ( Covid- 19): new cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell.
“Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self- isolate immediately.”
