Trust gives out £ 25k to charities for the vulnerable
The South Ayrshire Charitable Trust has donated £ 25,000 to charities in and around Ayr, to help support their work during the pandemic.
The Trust, which is administered by South Ayrshire Council, has donated £ 5,000 to Voluntary Action South Ayrshire, 10: 10 Trust, Riverside Church, Ayrshire Foodbank and Women’s Aid.
Funding from the Trust is spilt geographically across South Ayrshire, and the donations were made possible thanks to funds available in the Ayr fund.
South Ayrshire Councillors, who are also the trustees, felt that the donations were very much in the spirit of the Trust, which was set up to improve the lives of residents who are in need because of poverty, age, ill- health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
Councillor Philip Saxton, Housing and Community Wellbeing Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “There is no doubt that the pandemic has been keenly felt by the vulnerable in our communities, and we need to continue to do all we can to support them.
“The Council has been delivering food, medicine and ensuring that those on benefits are supported, but we also recognise the significant contribution made by local charities.
“Hopefully this donation will help their efforts as we continue to transition out of the lockdown.”
Bruce Bunten, from Riverside Church, said: “We are extremely grateful to the South Ayrshire Charitable Trust for this generous donation that has enabled us to continue the vital work of providing support to vulnerable and isolated members of our local community that have been most affected by the Covid- 19 crisis.
“It has been a lifeline to many people. Thank you.”
