Buskerfest to fill beach with sound of music
A celebration of music will see talented acts take to the stage at Ayr beach on Saturday.
Guitar man, Gav McMulkin, is the man behind ‘ Buskerfest’ - an all day session set to showcase some of Ayrshire’s best up and coming acts.
The open air gig at the beach bandstand will herald a welcome return for the live music scene.
And Gav, who spent almost a decade laying on packed music nights in the town’s Market Inn, is hoping his unplugged event will be a real hit.
The Cov- aid gig will see 15 acts take the stage from lunchtime.
Gav told the Post: “It’s a chance to do something positive after what has been a very tough time.
“I had originally planned to do a sort of Summer Sessions thing next year, and I guess everything that has happened lately has brought the idea forward. The response I’ve had is great and the performing slots were filled immediately.
“This is all about the acts just giving it what they have... no amplifiers, no sound systems... we’re talking simple acoustic stuff.”
Spectators will be encouraged to come and go throughout the day on the grass in front of the bandstand and adhere to social distancing.
No food or drink will be sold on the day.
Gav, 41, of Maybole said: “This is about giving something back to the people that have nothing.
“Ayrshire is blessed with a massive music community but it doesn’t have the backing to be able to do something with it.
“Back in the day, we had busloads of people coming to the Market from miles around and created a cracking wee venue.
“The fact we can create this buzz and bring musicians together is just awesome. I remember as a kid coming here and you’d have a clown up on the stage with 30 kids on the wee bit of grass in front of them.
“The wee train used to run on the track next door and it was good old fashioned fun.
“We’re just looking to bring some of that entertainment back.
“All the acts will be local and a lot will be newer ones who need a stage and a platform to get their names out there.”
