The Ayrshire economy is set for a £ 120 million boost, writes Jim Cuthbert.
It follows a substantial increase in the Enterprise Ayrshire budget.
The local enterprise company has been awarded £ 28m for economic development, an increase of £ 1.8m as well as another £ 3.5m from the European Union and cost savings.
Chief executive David Macdonald said Ayrshire would benefit from £ 120m expenditure and said: “We consistently argue the importance of Ayrshire.”

Giant crowds attended the farm- gate sales event at Ayr Cattle Market.
Examples of bargains available to those lucky enough to get them included 500 pints of milk at 6d each, 250 half- dozen boxes of eggs at 1s 6d, 80 one- stone bags of potatoes at 3s 6d, chickens at 6s each and turnips at 3d and 6d according to size.
With such a crowd present it was not surprising that things did not go without mishap. One middleaged woman got pinned against a wall and fainted.

The Janet Hoyle, the Ayr lifeboat, went for a spin in the bay on Saturday.
With her sails set, she made wonderful progress in a very heavy sea. She proved herself, as usual, in every way seaworthy.
At time she was almost hidden in the trough of the sea. And watchers enjoyed some thrills as they watched the Janet Hoyle go about her manoeuvres.
* She was the last Ayr lifeboat, serving from 1910- 32 and still exists on the Thames, though needing restored. The Hoyle should be returned to Ayr!
