Neighbours battled in vain to save a man who died after a horror fall in the street.

Tributes have been paid to Mark Leask after he was found in a pool of blood on Ayr’s Walker Road.

The 47- year- old died a short time later in Ayr Hospital.

One neighbour told the Post: “The man fell and hit his head on the kerb. He was lying in a pool of his own blood. We rushed out to try and help but we couldn’t save him.”

Tributes have been paid to a “legend” who tragically died in Ayr on Sunday.

Mark Leask was rushed by ambulance to Ayr Hospital after it’s believed he ‘ fell’ on Walker Road at 12.40pm.

Residents who rushed to help Mark found the 47- year- old in a pool of blood and he died a short time later.

Following the grim discovery, a police cordon was put in place as an immediate investigation into his death took place.

One resident said: “There was a heavy police and CID presence on Sunday afternoon until quite late in the evening.

“Forensics officers were out and part of Walker Road was cordoned off for several hours at the bottom bus stop to almost the cul- de- sac.”

However, a neighbour told the Post: “The man fell and hit his head on the kerb.

“He was lying in a pool of his own blood.

“We rushed out to try and help him but we couldn’t save him.”

Mark, originally from Glasgow, moved to Ayr several years ago.

Following the news of his death friends were quick to pay tribute to the Rangers fan.

In a touching salute to his pal, Paul Doonan told the Post: “I was Mark’s friend for almost 30 years. We shared a flat together.

“Mark was a genuinely lovely guy with no ill will in his body.

“He was most things to the extreme. Extremely funny, extremely loud and extremely troubled at times.

“His death is very sad and he will be sorely missed.

“He had friends everywhere. “Love you and will miss you immensely.

“You’ll forever be in my most memorable stories.

“The legend will never die.” Gillian Millar added: “I’ve had many a good night with Mark.

“Such a legend. And will be sorely missed.”

Vincenzo Coblers said: “Always had a huge amount of time for Mark. We had some contact as well after he’d moved down to Ayr but I never got the opportunity for a catch up.

“His obsession ( at least at the time) with Red Dwarf will never leave me.”

It’s not believed there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mark’s death although police are continuing their enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple said: “A post mortem examination will be held in due course, however meantime the death is being treated as unexplained.

“A number of people went to assist the injured man on Walker Road and I would ask anyone who assisted who has not yet spoken to police to please contact officers.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference number 2161.”
