Care giant set for expansion with 20 new jobs up for grabs

-

A major care firm has announced 20 new jobs in Ayrshire as it expands its business in care at home.

Mears Care Scotland has opened up the vacancies at its sites in Troon and Kilmarnock as part of the expansion.

Lynn Skedd, deputy manager at the Prestwick office for the firm, said: “There has been a big increase in the demand for care at home services from our team, and we have announced 20 new care worker jobs.

“Care at home enables people to remain living independently in their own homes, and is increasingly important with increased social distancing, which is preventing some families from visiting loved ones.”

Last month UK- based home care innovator Cera Care announced its acquisition of Mears Care Scotland.

The deal, which will see Mears Group’s social care arm in Scotland integrated into Cera Care, is set to accelerate the company’s growth across the Scottish market.

Cera is a technology- enabled home care provider using digital and data analytics to improve elderly care services.

The company has built machine learning algorithms for elderly care which allow it to predict health deteriorations before they occur.

Cera Care was recently selected as the UK Government Department for Health and Social Care’s recruitment technology partner.

Over the last four years, Cera has grown to become one of the largest health- technology companies in Europe.

Ms Skedd added: “I wish to thank our team of care workers here in Ayrshire for all their hard work and continued efforts during this very difficult time. It is greatly appreciated.

“Following procedures and often being the only person visiting someone living alone during the pandemic, they have gone above and beyond in their daily tasks.”

Care at home is a specialised service which enables older people and those less able, and sometimes those living alone, to have the services they require for an independent life in their own homes.

Many people require additional support when they return home from a stay in hospital. Regular visits provide personal care, shopping, medication and companionship.

Ayrshire care at home teams look after a wide variety of people living in their own homes, across Kilmarnock, Troon, Ayr and Prestwick.

Lynn added: “We can recruit people from retail, manufacturing, tourism and elsewhere looking for a change in employment, or whose jobs have been at risk with the impact the pandemic is having on the economy.

“Those looking for a new career in the care sector will find we give full training with social distancing guidelines in place.”

The jobs are full time, part time and flexible and those interested should call 07933 388277 to speak to Karen Mcderment.

Full training will be provided.
