KERR’S SQUAD IS BUZZING

- STUART WILSON

Mark Ke r r h a s challenged every man in his Ayr squad to give him a selection headache in the bid for promotion.

The boss admits it’s a welcome relief to head for Morton this week with returning players itching for starts.

Now he’s urging his new- look side to make it impossible to be ignored when it comes to naming the team.

Kerr ( left) told the Post: “I’ve now got decisions to make and that will always be healthy for the squad.

“But anybody who’s not involved this week knows they will be playing their part at some point this season.

“Our squad isn’t the biggest, so we know everyone will be needed and has the potential to come in and make an impact.

“It’s good and is exactly how we want it to be. The atmosphere around the squad is great.”

Only Tom Walsh will definitely miss the trip to Cappielow on Saturday, with Luke McCowan returning from suspension, while Jordan Houston continues to inch ever nearer to a start. Dario Zanatta is rated 50/ 50 to return.

Kerr, who almost became the first Ayr manager to win in Inverness for 17 years on Saturday, said: “I have to be happy with how we played for long spells.

“Regardless of the injury problems Inverness have, it was still a good side they had on the park and it is a very difficult place to go.

“At 1- 0 we should have gone on and finished the game, that’s the disappointing thing.

“We need to tighten up and see out the game better, but that’s all part of a learning process.

“The boys are putting in a tremendous shift at the moment and the likes of Andy Murdoch, coming off the back of his long injury, are giving us so much,

“If I’m honest, he’s probably ahead of where I could have expected him to be and it’s fantastic to see him back and making a real difference for us.”

Kerr has added forwards Cammy Smith and Innes Cameron on shortterm loans from Dundee United and Kilmarnock respectively.

Cameron netted just seconds after coming off the bench in the Highlands.

Kerr added: “I thought he was great and gave us a totally different dimension.”
