One resident dead after virus outbreak
A resident at the Claremont Care home in Ayr has died after contracting the coronavirus.
A total of 15 residents and 16 staff tested positive for Covid- 19. A further 10 members of staff are self- isolating.
Last week another Ayr OAP residence - Creggan Bahn - confirmed four members of staff caught Covid- 19 in the community.
But residents in Seafield’s Creggan Bahn are still clear of the virus and have been since the beginning of the pandemic.
Claremont Care Home said it is informing relatives of residents about the current situation in its facility.
A spokeswoman for the Thorneyflat Wynd unit said: “In partnership with Public Health, we are facilitating whole home testing of colleagues and residents at the home. The next of kin have been informed of the situation so far, and once we have received the test results we will be providing them with direct updates on their loved ones and on the full situation at the home.
“As is always the case, families can also contact the home at any time for an update on their loved one. The local colleagues are being supported by the senior regional team and the home has all the necessary resources and support they need to care for residents.”
Samantha Baxter- Hendren, manager of Creggan Bahn, said last week: “I can confirm that we do not presently have an outbreak of Covid- 19 in Creggan Bahn.
“Over the past two weeks we have had a total of four staff members test positive due to transmission in the community and not in the care home. I can confirm that no residents have been affected since the beginning of the pandemic to date.
“I hope that the high standard of infection control and prevention we have in place ensures this continues over the months ahead.”
NHS Ayrshire & Arran confirmed it is currently supporting Claremont.
Lynne McNiven, Joint Director of Public Health said: “NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Health Protection Team and the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership are working closely with a care home in South Ayrshire where a number of individuals have either a confirmed or suspected case of coronavirus ( Covid- 19) infection.
“We appreciate this is a very worrying time.
“We would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect residents and staff.”
