Young DJ Ewan puts town on the map
Ayr DJ Ewan McVicar is hoping to put the town on the map after being nominated for a ‘ Best Breakthrough Act in Britain’ accolade.
The 26- year- old was stunned to find out he’d been nominated for the prestigious DJ Mag award last week.
The former Belmont Academy pupil has had a funny old year. After dropping his debut release ‘ Street Rave’ on Patrick Topping’s Trick label - a track which was championed by the likes of Radio 1’ s Annie Mac and Pete Tong - Ewan’s broken onto the scene. He’s seeing his dream finally become reality, during a global pandemic.
Ewan told the Post : “I didn’t even know I was getting nominated, that’s why it’s come as such a surprise. It just tops off such a bittersweet year.”
After a string of cancelled gigs Ewan played a live stream at Ayr Pavilion earlier this year. He got to play a dream set at Glasgow venue SWG3’ s socially distanced event SEATrave.
“I burst out crying after the set,” he said. “Everyone was sitting down, hands in the air, screaming going mental. I was just so filled with emotion and relief that I’d finally got one gig.
“I also opened an event in Newcastle and that made me the first ever DJ to play a socially distanced rave in the UK – it was mad.
“There’s been so many accolades.” Ewan’s next accolade was getting signed up to legendary New York City house music label, Nervous Records.
His second release ‘ Love Trip’ is out on the label next month and Ewan said: “I’ve always wanted to get on it.” Head to bestofbritish. djmag. com/ voting to vote for Ewan.
Love Trip is released on Friday, December 18.
