Deputy leader backs Sarwar
The deputy leader of South Ayrshire Council Brian McGinley has backed Anas Sarwar as the new Scottish Labour Leader to replace Richard Leonard.
Glasgow MSP Sarwar faces Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon in the race to head up the party.
South Ayrshire Labour Group leader Councillor McGinley said: “Labour in Scotland needs to change, I know that and the public know that.
“Now is the time to make that change with a positive plan that will bring the country together, mend our divisions and make a better life for all of us.
“People are tired of the constitutional division that has raged for too long especially since it was settled in 2014. Anas is very clear about what change needs to happen. Independence is a divisive distraction, above all else, Scotland needs to recover, rebuild with reform and Anas is determined to get on and sort out the public mess and lead for Scotland.”
The Ayr East politician added: “Anas is a winner. He works hard. He is smart with a steely determination. He will make a great, visible leader, just what Scotland wants. He has a charisma and charm that is rooted in compassion and care that will build a Scotland of which we can all be proud.
“I am delighted to support his nomination. I am confident that he will deliver welcome and meaningful change for all of us in Scotland. In his hands, Scotland will be a better unified country with him at the helm.”
