Labour should tell us who to vote for

-

It’s now two weeks since I challenged council leader Peter Henderson over the proposed £40 million leisure centre complex for Ayr town centre.

And all it did was ask him to take himself at his word! If he delivered the project on time and on budget – not unreasonable you would think – I would resign from this column. If he didn’t – he would resign as a councillor. Sadly – it looks like no takers for this wager. So, let’s have a bit of fun with my old favourite – housing – instead.

In the SNP’s 2017 manifesto , Mr Henderson“unreservedly committed”to build 580 affordable new homes in five years. After four years – according to SAC’s own figures this week – the number is three short . . . of half way!

Peter, if you’re not prepared to put your job on the line – for not actually doing the job you promised – I’ll make this challenge a little easier. Build those 580 houses as promised – and I’ll come over and wash your car.

Fail – and you bring the bucket and sponge over to mine! Do we have a bet, Peter? I suppose, to their credit, at least the SNP actually had a manifesto. Over in the Labour camp, they still haven’t even got a candidate for the Holyrood election that’s nine weeks away. Local Labour leader Brian McGinley has tweeted himself into oblivion these past weeks. It’s a daily tirade against the Nats – the same party he supports faithfully in the council chamber! No – I don’t get it either. Come on Brian – stop twittering about who not to vote for – and tell us the name of who we should be voting for.
