It’s such a perfect day out

-

Before my Easter break, I invited you all to tell me what would be your favourite“Day Out”in Ayrshire and Arran.

Once again, you didn’t let me down!

My thanks to John Cunningham whose perfect day out is spent on his pedals.

A fan of the legendary Davy Bell, John has tried to emulate his famous cycle journeys in the Galloway Hills.

His favourite journey takes him down to the Minigaff youth hostel near Newton Stewart. It’s not quite Ayrshire but - hey John - who cares? What a lovely trip.

Closer to home though, John keeps his pedals turning regularly on local trips to Rozelle, Belleisle, Doonfoot, Greenan and beyond.

If that sounds a bit too tiring – then how about some brisk hill walking with Dick Vernon – who heads up the Opportunities in Retirement Walking Group.

Dick’s perfect day recently was a trip south to the Stinchar Bridge and Breck Bowie Hill – skirting the shores of beautiful Loch Bradan.

“Far from the Madding Crowd”he calls it. Wonderful.

One entry suggested a bus trip to Kilmarnock and back . . . although it was signed by someone called Mrs April Full!

But my prize goes to Janet Deuchar of Ayr whose idea of a perfect day out is much more relaxing – and with food and drink thrown in!

“Leave Deuchar Towers at Masonhill and drive to Largs. Watch the Waverley pick up passengers at the pier, wishing then luck and waving goodbye as they sail on“doon the watter”to Campbeltown.

“Take car ferry to Wee Cumbrae and drive to other side for a picnic on the beach (from The Deli in Millport if its open!) and watch the big ships going up or down the Tail O’The Bank.

“Back to Largs for a cone at Nardini’s then home for a glass of wine and a barbie”.

It sounds great Janet – but will one glass of wine be enough?

My prize was my own version of a day out in beautiful Ayrshire and yes, wine will be on the menu Janet!

Once again, thanks to everyone who entered!
