Motorists travelling on the southbound stretch of the A77 in Ayrshire are being warned of evening road closures and diversions which will be in place later next month.

A £30,000 road maintenance project will take place from Thursday, June 17 until Saturday, June 19, south of the Sandyford Toll roundabout.

As a result, A77 southbound traffic will be diverted via Dutchhouse Roundabout and will take the third exit onto the A78.

At Monktonhead Roundabout, traffic will take the second exit to join the A79 and at the following roundabout will take the third exit to continue on the A79.

Traffic will proceed through Prestwick onto Ayr Road and will be directed to take a left turn onto the B743, Heathfield Road.

From here, traffic will take the third exit at Whitletts Roundabout to re-join the A77 southbound and the diversion will end. A77 northbound traffic will not be affected. The work will be carried out by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South West Trunk Road Unit.

The closure and diversions will be in place between 8pm and 6am, each night.

An Amey spokesperson said the scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by “improving the condition of the carriageway” and “reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.”

The spokesperson added: “Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.”

The scheme is weather dependent and may be cancelled, or rescheduled, if weather conditions are not favourable.
