Get on your bike for Cancer Support

-

Ayrshire Cancer Support are asking members of the public to sign up to their new cycling event- the Ayrshire to Beatson Cycle Challenge.

Every year Ayrshire Cancer Support volunteer drivers undertake around 12,000 journeys to The Beatson Hospital - taking patients to and from their cancer treatment.

Now it’s your turn - only on a bike. Take on the‘Beatson’and pedal towards a stronger, healthier you.

The charity are asking people of Ayrshire to pick a challenge this September that is equivalent to that of one of their volunteer drivers’return journeys. The volunteer drivers provide free transport to those all over Ayrshire who require transport to a hospital appointment, in connection with their cancer diagnosis.

Choose a journey that means something to you, or a mileage that you want to challenge yourself with like Ayr Beach to the Beatson Hospital and back, which is 84 miles.

Fundraising Manager, Martin Quigley said:“Complete your challenge anytime in September.

“Your virtual cycling challenge can be done in your local outdoors or even in the comfort of your own home, if you have a biking machine.

“There is no entry fee to register or minimum fundraising requirement, so just raise as much as you can to help those who need it most in Ayrshire.

“We’ve got lots of ideas and would love to help you shape a challenge that’s perfect for you and your team.

“It cost three times more to take a patient to hospital, as now only one patient can go per car, as opposed to three before COVID.”
