Council boss backs under-fire worker

- PAUL B EHAN

A council boss has rubbished claims that a local authority employee acted improperly during discussions with community campaigners over the future of the CEVIC building in Catrine.

Eddie Fraser, chief executive of East Ayrshire Council, said the unnamed employee had been subject to ‘personal attacks’ on social media from those opposed to the council’s long-term plan for the building.

It had also been claimed that the employee broke the authority’s Code of Conduct during recent talks over the building’s future.

However, Mr Fraser said the member of staff involved in the storm acted with “the utmost honesty and integrity ”at“all times.”

Mr Fraser said: “In relation to the matter raised about the employee’s Code of Conduct, I am satisfied that there is not, and has never been, any issue in respect of compliance with the Code at any time on the part of the employee throughout the history of this matter. The individual concerned has always displayed the utmost honesty and integrity at all times. The manner in which he, and others connected with Catrine Community Trust have been, and continue to be, the subject of repeated personal attacks on social media simply because others have taken issue with events that have played out over the past decade or so, is disconcerting, given that it can only discourage other residents from getting involved in their communities in the first place.”
