Shame on you SAC

-

The people of Hong Kong have been dodging bullets from their Chinese oppressors for years now.

How fitting that when South Ayrshire Council had its first genuine open vote in years – over a ‘friendship’ with China – several councillors dodged the bullet as well!

Three SNP councillors were clearly unhappy with the “Friendly and Cooperation Relationship Agreement” being signed with the Shandong province city of Liaocheng.

But would they join their Conservative opponents and vote against it?

No – they abstained. Clearly, voting with your conscience isn’t a powerful enough reason to vote against your own party. As a result – the vote was tied and went to the casting vote of Provost Helen Moonie, who approved the deal.

What a jolly coincidence. Who is the only councillor who has actually been wined and dined by those nice people in the very same city of Liaocheng. Step forward . . . Provost Helen Moonie!

Which councillor is on record as having received more than half a dozen gifts from Chinese related associations with South Ayrshire? Yes . . . it’s our Helen again!

China’s record on human rights is appalling. Will the city of Liaocheng join South Ayrshire and fly the LGBT Rainbow flag above its main government building? Are you serious?

This page has recounted a number of times I’ve felt, dissatisfied, disheartened, disappointed and disillusioned by the actions of some of our elected members.

But in all those years - I couldn’t honestly say I’ve felt ashamed of them.

I can say it now.
