Knife killer, 28, dies in prison

-

A killer who knifed an ex-bodybuilder to death in Ayr has died in prison.

Marius Bauba, 28, who went on the run after stabbing Morgan Dunn, 34, at a house in Ayr’s Marigold Square last year, was found by guards at HMP Shotts, on Saturday.

The former Prestwick Academy pupil was serving an almost 10 -year jail term after being sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow in January.

Dad-of-one Bauba was taken to Wishaw General Hospital but nothing could be done to save him. His death is being treated as‘ unexplained but not suspicious’ with the circumstances being investigated. Bauba flouted eight different bail orders when he killed Dunn and tried to dodge arrest by dying his hair and checking into hotels in Dumfries, Gretna and Carlisle using false names.

Police eventually found him 11 days after the fatal attack.

Bauba initially faced a murder allegation when he appeared at the High Court in Glasgow, but, prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charge of culpable homicide.

A nine-month prison sentence was added to his nine-year jail term in February for a string of offences in the lead up to Morgan Dunn’s killing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a 28-year-old man at Wishaw General Hospital shortly before 8pm on Saturday, 24 July. The man had been taken to hospital from HMP Shotts a short time earlier. His death is currently being treated as unexplained but nonsuspicious and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service spokeswoman added: “The investigation into the death is ongoing and the family will continue to be kept updated.”
