Fraser wins backing of the stars for song work

- RYAN THOM

A school pupil who designed the artwork for a powerful charity single has received a signed copy from two local superstars.

Talented Fraser Ferguson sketched out the artwork for Ayrshire College’s poignant track that has helped tackle mental health.

The 12-year-old, now at Prestwick Academy, won a competition to design the artwork after he added his own splash of colour to the single ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are,’ recorded by Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai MacDowall.

The artwork is a series of clouds showing different emotions in an ode to the various ways people can feel.

The hit single was written by Ayrshire College Music student Leah Batty with all proceeds going towards the Kris Boyd Charity set up by the former Kilmarnock ace.

And the ex-Rangers striker joined Jai MacDowall last week outside the Ayr campus to present young Fraser with a signed copy of the CD and CD cover.

Fraser was also gifted a hoodie and a t-shirt emblazoned with Ayrshire College’s mental health campaign #PassingPositivty message on it.

Singer Jai has told how great it was to meet Fraser and chat about being part of the selection process in picking the cover.

Jai told the Post: “The artwork is great, it was really encapsulates a real feel good cover and the message we are trying to get with the song.

“He used song lyrics in it as well which is a nice touch. It was an overall really nice piece.

“Fraser’s a talented young lad. It was great to meet him and see his family; it was one of the first days of the summer holidays and he had to come in his school uniform.

“It was a really nice piece. “He was really chuffed at winning it and to be part of the whole thing.

“His mum had sung with me before as part of a choir at Usher Hall, that was a nice connection.”

“It was nice to put a face to the artwork, last year we weren’t able to meet him which was a shame.”

For the second year running, Sport and Fitness students at Ayrshire College had to hold the #PassingPositivity events virtually,

due to ongoing COVID-19 event restrictions. This year they raised over £1,500 for the Kris Boyd Charity through the charity single, a 3,500 mile virtual charity trek the distance from Kilmarnock, Scotland to Kilmarnock, USA – and a virtual sports quiz.
