20k fees to defeat the will of the public

-

Thanks to a concerned reader – and the Freedom of Information Act – we now learn the true cost of the treachery surrounding Girvan’s proposed 3G Football Pitch.

You’ll recall that objectors to the Common Good‘land grab’at Victory Park were forced to withdraw their arguments after South Ayrshire Council threatened to levy them with legal costs if their appeals failed.

It meant members of the public were denied their legal right to be heard - in fear of facing a bill for thousands of pounds. SAC had no such worries, of course. Determined to force this through at all costs and at any cost – and against the outcome of public consultation – we now learn the bill for advocacy advice comes to £20,875+ VAT. That means over twenty grand of the public’s council tax money was spent on planning and defeating the will of the public

But the council got what they wanted.

I’m sure a certain advocate – trousering a cheque for £20,875 - got what he or she wanted.

And the public got what they didn’t want.

Outrageous doesn’t even come close.
