ThinkAgain

-

I refer to your article re the High Street Saga and the hole at the bottom of the town.

I was astounded by two of the comments made by the leader of the council, Mr Peter Henderson, when he made the following inputs.

Firstly that “no building will suit everyone’s needs” and, secondly, that with regard to knocking down the old Town House that “there is nothing special about it whatsoever.”

On a personal level Mr Henderson is convivial and genial.

However these comments are nonsense and now bring into play the question as to who is running the council.

The officers or the administration. Some of the council’s recent decisions regarding buildings and future construction plans begs the question as to the role of those in managing economic development and allocation of building contracts – such as the council’s relationship with Hub SW of which one of the council officers is a director.

In answer to the leader, a building should meet the needs of the majority of the community provided they are asked appropriately.

I am sure he is also aware that we are all creatures of our history and heritage.

Our heritage is special as it made us who we are or wish to be.

To dismiss the old Town House as “nothing special” belies the personality and characteristics the Leader normally shows.

Think again.
