Bulls ready for TV date

- CALLUM KERR

Ayrshire’s part-time professional rugby side, the Ayrshire Bulls, are poised for their first action in 16 months this Sunday when they take on Watsonians at Millbrae.

The match will also be the first FOSROC Super6 game to be broadcast on live television, with Free Sports televising all Sunday fixtures in the competition.

The game gets underway at 1.30pm.

Ahead of the match, Head Coach Pat MacArthur unveiled his full 32-man squad which includes a scattering of Scotland caps, upand-comers and foreign flair.

McArthur’s squad is made up of 27 signed players with the bonus of five FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy contracted players.

Of the 27 signed to the Bulls, 12 have come through the Ayr Rugby performance system (44 per cent) with a further five from the wider

Glasgow and Southwest area.

Sunday’s match will be MacArthur’s first at the helm of the squad, having been unveiled as Head Coach earlier in the year.

Speaking of his signings, he said: “I’m really happy with the squad we are building, there will be a lot

of competition for spaces.

“At the Ayrshire Bulls we want to build the right culture and environment where players will be challenged and improve.

“We are proud to be part of a process where they will move on to full-time contracts.

“Our squad has a mix of young Scots with some older heads, and there is quality dotted throughout.

“Blair MacPherson will be captain; he’s constantly been outstanding and has been one of our leaders for a long time.”

Due to current Covid-19

restrictions on crowd capacity, tickets are only being offered to sponsors and members at this time, with a view to expand numbers as and when is possible.

Coverage of the game starts on Free Sports (Sky channel 422) at 1.25pm on Sunday.
