Press Awards shortlist joy for our Post
Ayrshire’s go-to newspaper has been nominated in two categories for the 42nd Scottish Press Awards.
We at the Ayrshire Post are delighted to reveal that we’ve been shortlisted in the Weekly Newspaper of the Year category – and the Weekly Campaign of the Year.
We pride ourselves on our regular hardhitting news stories and features.
And we dedicated weeks of coverage to our Save Station 15 campaign.
We launched a petition, which saw more than
16,000 people sign up.
The campaign was designed to help prevent health chiefs from moving cancer treatment for main tumours from Ayr to Kilmarnock, under a controversial shake-up of the service.
And, thanks to our popular campaign, we made sure NHS Ayrshire and Arran bosses paused their decision to remove such a vital service from Ayr.
The winners of the 42nd Scottish Press Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Wednesday, September 29, to be hosted by former BBC Scotland newsreader Jackie Bird.
Editor Gary Fanning said:“It is an honour to be nominated for not just one, but two awards at this year’s event. I am glad that the talent and hard work of our news team has been recognised.” This year’s judging panel was chaired by former Daily Record managing director and DC Thomson chief commercial officer Denise West. Denise said: “The shortlists contain the very best of 2020’s work, but we should applaud the achievement of everyone in the industry, not just our finalists.
“The judges face a daunting task to select winners from some superb entries and we very much hope to congratulate our winners in person.”
