Fiddle Orchestra are back with live music
Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra were back doing what they do best earlier this month- entertaining with live music.
On Sunday, August 1, two small groups from AFO played to customers at the River Garden Bothy Cafe in the Auchincruive Estate throughout the day.
The sun was shining as customers enjoyed a cold beverage and a treat for both their mouths and ears, as they soaked up the sweet tunes from players. A larger group of the Orchestra, featuring many senior players playing their last AFO concert before moving onto University, will perform at Newton-Wallacetown Church on Sunday, September 12 for a concert, starting at 7.30pm.
The event will also be streamed live on AFO’s Facebook page - www.facebook.com/ayrshirefiddleorchestra
Towards the end of September, the Orchestra return to their favourite home performance venue of Ayr Town Hall to provide music for an Ayr Town Twinning function.
Sadly, the Orchestra’s planned International Concert Tour to South Africa, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s visit to Glasgow, has had to be cancelled but plans are already underway for an International Tour in 2023. On their previous visit to South Africa in 2015, when they were guests at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, senior fiddle player, Ciaran McHugh, played the memorable tune Nelson Mandela’s Welcome to Glasgow in the cell on Robben Island occupied by that great imprisoned Statesman.
The Orchestra hope to begin regular rehearsals later this month and will be delighted to welcome new players of young violinists, cellists, guitarists and bass players.
