Sick stalkers have made it a no-go zone for teen girls in this town...

Worried mum says daughter was followed home and speaks of concern at other kids being targeted

-

A worried mum told this week how her town “isn’t safe” for teenage girls anymore after a summer of stalking.

Aimie Burnett doesn’t want to let her kids out of the house after her daughter fell victim to a park creep who allegedly watched her enter her Ayr home.

The mum-of-five said she has had enough of young girls being preyed on in Ayr ‘no-go zones’ such as Wallacetown and Castlehill Woods.

Last week her 14-year-old daughter was walking home with a friend when they were both allegedly followed by a man wearing dark clothes and a baseball cap.

The terrifying incident took place just yards from her home near to Glencairn Park in the Forehill area of the town.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Just days before another 14-year-old girl in Ayr was ‘traced safely’ after vanishing for two days with police still investigating the circumstances.

And last month the Post reported how a 16-year-old girl was ‘intimidated’ by two creepy men in a BMW as she walked to a beauty appointment.

And the Post also reported how a 10-year-old girl in Maybole was left frightened after an incident in the town’s Glebe Crescent. A man was last week helping police with their enquiries.

Police have ruled out that the incidents are linked.

Aimie is calling on the community and police to do more to tackle inappropriate behaviour and protect vulnerable daughters.

The 35-year-old added: “Ayr doesn’t feel safe for our children anymore.

“It’s getting to the stage I just want to keep my children in the house now.

“I am fearing the worst that they will just be taken one night.

“When I was growing up everything was different. You could go out and play without fear.

“It seems like all you hear about now is young girls being approached by men. It is unacceptable behaviour and it has to stop.

“So much stuff is shared on social media that is really concerning when you hear what can actually happen to some of these girls.

“In the last month there have been so many incidents in Ayr, it is really worrying and it is time communities and police take action.”

Chief Inspector Derrick Johnston, of Ayr Police Office, said: “We are aware of community concerns following a small number of isolated incidents of men allegedly approaching teenage girls in the Ayr area.

“I’d like to reassure the public that extensive enquiries are being carried out into the reports, which are not being treated as linked.

“If anyone has any information or concerns they wish to report, they should call the police on 101.”
