Friends describe missing man ‘a gem’

Tributes have been paid to a missing Muirkirk dad-of-three after a body has been found.

Murray Tanner vanished from his home in Muirkirk last Monday night.

Formal identifica­tion is yet to take place but his family were told the devastatin­g news by officers that a body had been found at around 1.45pm on Thursday, August 26.

Emergency services were called to Corehouse, Lanark, by the Falls of Clyde, about 1.45pm last Thursday.

Friends described 48-yearold Celtic fan Murray as a “gem”.

Police said: “The man is yet to be formally identified but the family of Murray Tanner, 48, who was reported missing from Muirkirk on Monday, August 23, has been informed.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstan­ces and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

Police launched a missing person’s investigat­ion after Mr Tanner vanished last Monday night.

He was last seen at his home address in the village’s Lapraik Avenue at 11pm.

There were growing concerns for his welfare who was driving a Silver Vauxhall Crosslande­r VRM.

Devastated pals have been paying tribute to Hoops-daft Murray.

Mourners have been paying their respects online since the tragic news.

One said: “Absolutely gutted to hear this rip Murray. You were one in a million to me. Thoughts with all the family. I will be cheering on the hoops for you on Sunday. Fly high big man.”

Another added: “Murray, I hope you’re at peace now.

Gonna miss your daft banter oot the back. Totally gutted.”

One person wrote: “Known him from a young boy, one of the nicest guys you would ever meet! RIP Murray.”

One said: “Absolutely devastated to read this. Lovely guy. R.I.P Murray. Thinking of your family, Michelle and your 3 weans, big hugs to them all.”

“You will be missed big yin,” another person said. “My thoughts with all family and friends. ”

Another added: “Rest easy Murray. You’ll never walk alone.”
