Paint firm to bring new splash of colour to Ayr’s trade scene
A new business venture has officially opened its doors in Ayr as it prepares to serve the region.
Pro Paints (Ayrshire) Ltd, situated at the North Harbour Trading Estate, will be predonimately trade-focused.
But the firm has also pledged to be open to the public.
The branch will be the official distributor of Tikkurila, a leading Finnish paint manufacturer, along with a large selection of decorator sundries.
Owner Craig Hainey formerly ran his own local decorating business Ultimate Décor.
But he described becoming “disheartened” by the lack of choice of paints available in store compared to that online.
And that had prompted him to open a local and independent decorator centre as part of the post-Covid recovery.
He said: “Tikkurila have been making and selling paint for over 150 years in Finland, so they know a thing or two about paint.
“The idea of opening a local and independent decorator centre came from running my own local decorating business Ultimate Decor.
“The main reason for starting this new venture was the lack of choice of paints available in store compared to what was available online.
“I was fed up having a narrow choice of supplier and paying over the odds for paints that did not reflect the price tag.
“We will also be running Spray Painting Courses to help decorators learn new skills and techniques in Airless and HVLP spray painting in our custom built spray shop which is joined on to our shop.”
The business is based at Unit 13 in the estate and will operate six days per week.
South Scotland MSP and Ayr resident, Sharon Dowey, was invited to officially open the new venture in town.
Mrs Dowey said: “It’s always great to see new businesses opening up in Ayr.
“I’m honoured to have been asked to come along and cut the ribbon today.
“Craig and the team have put together a fantastic business here and I wish them the very best of success with their future plans.”
