Ryan’s happy at super flare United

-

Ryan Gondoh thought he’d walked into a European clash when making his first start at Somerset.

The former Wealdstone star admits Saturday’s lively atmosphere against St Mirren was a far cry from the English National League.

But now he can’t wait to taste more of the same on United’s run-in to the campaign.

He smiled:“When I saw all the flares going off it felt like I was playing in the Europa League or something.

“The atmosphere was fantastic all game, though, and as players you feed off that.

“It was probably one of the biggest crowds I’ve played in front of in my career and it was a great buzz.”

Gondoh was a bright spark on an otherwise disappointing afternoon for Ayr as Saints ran out comfortable winners.

But the midfielder insists there was reason to be encouraged.

He said:“The shape was different with us playing 3-5-2 and I thought we struggled to adapt at first.

“We’d tried to match up to them as that’s the way they’ve been playing this season.

“But once we went to a back four I thought we were much better.

“I thought we grew into the game the longer it went.”

Gondoh added:“It was an enjoyable experience for me and the tempo and intensity is different to what I’m used to but I just have to adapt.

“I wanted to come up here and test myself.

“Down south there are a lot of similar players, and you don’t get seen for what you have.

“But I feel I can come up here and show that little bit something different.

“Hopefully I can score the goals to help keep us up.”
