NHS staff slam plush hotel rooms’ condition

- RYAN THOM

NHS workers have slammed “horrific” rooms at a plush hotel which they claim had dead flies lying around and was caked in dust.

The shocked group of healthcare staff were appalled by what they describe as “disgusting’”conditions at Enterkine House Hotel, near Annbank, during their stay to escape the pressures of the pandemic.

The group, who are all NHS 24 call handlers in Glasgow, decided to book in for a party night before Christmas.

Kimberely Black, her brother, Stuart Black, Julie Cunningham and Laura Nibloe headed to the countryside after working through gruelling shifts on the Covid frontline where they say they worked extra hours and lived at their work handling crisis calls.

They booked in for an overnight stay at the plush four-star hotel on December 18 which included dinner and a performance from band Angel Star and paid £120 each for the experience.

The group were left horrified by their rooms when what they claim were thick layers of dust on the bathroom floor and the discovery of two dead bluebottles by the window sill. A chair in the room was also reportedly stained with fluids.

Kimberley said: “The cleanliness of the seemingly revamped rooms was utterly horrific. One room smelt like raw sewage, we genuinely wanted to leave because we couldn’t stand the smell.

“The bathroom was disgusting, it was covered in dust. We also found two dead flies just lying there. It was so obvious that the room hadn’t been cleaned. Our bed sheets were manky. Stuart had to sleep with his clothes on as he refused to touch the sheets. The rooms were supposed to be newly renovated but there were big cuts down the wall as if the job was half done.”

The furious four complained of their rooms on the night and claimed that only the dead flies were removed, with the rooms still left in a state. Hotel bosses confirmed they will be giving them a refund. A spokesperson for Enterkine House management added: “We are sorry our efforts did not meet expectations.”
